“AVOID HIGH SEASON”
A phrase that reads in almost any travel site. If you have school-age children is almost impossible.
But if there is no other option, here are some tips.
- Try to make hotel reservations and airline tickets in advance.
- Schedule your visits to the most sought-after sights such as Sugar Loaf and Corcovado during the week. The same goes for famous restaurants.
- If you come from the Northern Hemisphere is worth remembering that, in Brazil, the school holidays take place from December to March and in July. During this time, the Cariocas leave the city, and tourists are free to crowd the city’s main attractions. On weekends, the city gets busier in welcoming tourists from nearby cities and other states.
- If you can travel at any other time than this, stay tuned because some holidays usually fill the town. See below dates that comprise the high season in Rio de Janeiro in 2016:

- From January 1 to March 1 – School and Carnival Holiday
- Good Friday on 25th of March and Easter on the 27th.
- April 20th -24th (Tiradentes and São Jorge)
- May 1st. (Labor Day)
- May 26th- 29th (Corpus Christi)
- Entire month of July (Schools are off)
- September 7th (Independence of Brazil)
- October 12th (Patron saint of Brazil)
- November 2nd. (the day of the dead)
- November 12th-15th. (Proclamation of the Republic)
- November 20th. (Day of Black Consciousness)
- 01 of the 31 December (School Vacation)
On the night prior to a holiday weekend traffic is heavy going in and out of town especially during rush hour.
It is also very difficult to find buy bus tickets to other cities such as Búzios and Cabo Frio.
It is best to plan trips to other towns, at another time.

Desculpe a demora em responder. Estava com problemas de manutenção do Post. Vamos lá. Búzios é um excelente passeio, um lugar que vale a pena conhecer. Aqui vão algumas dicas. Durante o verão a cidade fica muito cheia, isso significa grandes engarrafamentos ou transito muito lento durante quase todo dia. A cidade não foi projetada para receber muita gente. A viagem do Rio até Búzios, em geral, dura cerca de 3:30h isso, se não tiver nenhum engarrafamento pelo caminho. Então, fazendo as contas ida e volta são 7h de viagem. Não vai dar pra fazer nada. Aconselho que você programe pelo menos dois dias na cidade. Aí dá para visitar as praias e curtir o por do sol caminhando pela Orla Bardot e aproveitar a charmosa e movimentada noite na Rua das Pedras com os restaurantes, bares, lanchonetes e lojas a todo o vapor. Você pode ir de ônibus. A Viação 1001 faz o trajeto com o primeiro ônibus saindo às 05:08h e o último às 22:00h da Rodoviária Novo Rio. Existem inúmeras pousadas e hotéis na região. Escolha um que fique perto da Orla para poder se deslocar a pé com mais facilidade e evitar o transito. Para visitar as praias existem pequenas lanchas que fazem o papel de táxi marítimo, por um preço acessível.
