THE WEATHER IN RIO DE JANEIRO.

WHAT CLOTHES SHOULD I PACK?

The weather in Rio de Janeiro usually is quite friendly for locals and tourists. During all year, the sunny days are majority. Nonetheless, here are some tips that can help you make the most of your holiday. After all no one wants to go on a trip and stay confined in a hotel room for days, right?

FYI, the period with the highest number of rainy days goes from December to April which is  all the summer months stretching a little into beginning of fall . During the summer the heat is high and we have an average temperature of about 78ºF (I said average, because the peaks, in warmer weather, can up to 104ºF. Not to forget that if there is too much moisture in the air temperature may seem much higher). If you are traveling at this time bring light clothing, and take advantage of the hotel air conditioning, and of the sunscreen. It’s no joke, If you stay too long in the sun, you will turn as red as a lobster and will spend several uncomfortable nights.

TEMPERATURE average

January and February have days of extra heat and sun, but, in some days, in the afternoon, the weather brings heavy rains that often flood some of the city streets. But in general, these heavy rains are short-lived. Night temperature, after the rain, tend to be muffled and humid .

HOW OFTEN WILL IT RAIN?

From May to November sunny days are majority. July and August, almost always, are the driest months. In late autumn and winter the sun is nicer and the ocean water is colder. Beaches are not crowded. This period holds the most spectacular sunny days, pleasant temperatures and a wonderful blue sky. The lowest temperatures in winter can be 55ºF, but it is not very common. The average temperature in winter months is about 71ºF.
Well, that’s not a rule because no one controls climate but, in Rio de Janeiro when it’s sunny it’s SUMMER and the city shines.
